It's been years since I kept a dog. There's not much room or time for a hound when you live in a condominium, sleep through the day, and devote most of your nights to work and fine dining. Curiously, after yesterday's misadventures, I don't seem to be hungry at all. Detective Celluci must be relieved that I'm not craving Italian.

You needn't worry about the detective's well-being during our enforced companionship, nor mine. I'm sure we can maintain civility for a few hours more, in the spirit of the holiday if nothing else.
